I painted this in 2011, and sold it through a gallery in Macclesfield.
Of all the skyscapes I’ve painted, this is my favourite. I recently tried to duplicate it, but failed. I will try again! I think the sky looks heavenly, and so I titled the painting « Ciel ». In French, ciel means both sky and heaven.

Sunshine and Showers (£260)
Pastel on board, 50cm x 40cm (mounted and framed with black mount and black wooden frame).

I did this pastel sketch from my studio window, just across the road from these terrace-house rooftops. It was one of those cold days in spring that constantly change from light to dark to light… Thick clouds, that have just thrown down hailstones, are sweeping away. Light bounces off the wet slates. Crows are tossed up in the breeze like charred paper.
