This is my largest work to date, and the most time-consuming and technically challenging. See here my full description of the painting, the processes in creating it, and what I have attempted to achieve.
The painting will be about 6-feet wide when it’s framed. Therefore I imagine it would be too large for most homes – certainly my home! – and might suit a corporate buyer. I have not yet had the image professionally captured for printing, but I will do so if I receive requests for prints before I sell the painting. Early Starters, Oxford Road, Manchester (£3,000)

As in all my panoramic paintings, I am looking in all directions: left, right, up and down, using a montage of images and then experimenting until I’ve create a single convincingly-realistic image. I think this painting has elements of Edward Hooper’s ‘voyeurism’, where the eye moves through the city and then into the office on the second floor, where two girls are chatting as they’re arriving at their desks, and into Greggs where two workmen seem to be in serious conversation. In reality, the Greggs bakery and the offices are not where they are in the painting. I transplanted them from a position further up the road and onto the site of a McDonalds!

Driving into Manchester on a stormy evening
Pastel on board 70cm x 50cm. Framed and mounted (£800).
My daughter and I were driving into Manchester to see a performance by the Halle Orchestra (two Mozart piano concertos) at Bridgewater Hall (the back of which is visible on the right of the painting). It was early spring, and we had driven through thunderstorms. As the sky began to quickly clear, the evening light had a beautiful and strange ambience. My daughter took some reference photos.
The windscreen wiper on the bottom left, and the large drops on the uncleared part of the windscreen, bottom right, are indications of the very recent heavy rain. The original is for sale, and I have giclée prints available.
